The creation story highlights several important things
  1. The story starts with and focuses on God. He is the central character of the story, not us.
  2. The creation story shows God as superior to all things. While the ancients feared chaos, God tames it. While the ancients worshiped all parts of creation, God creates all.
  3. Genesis 1.26 speaks of people being created in the image of God. In the ancient near east it was thought that only kings were made in the image of God and therefore had the right to act with divine authority. God makes it clear that all human beings are created in his image and are to act with divine authority to care for his creation.
  4. Genesis 1.28 is known as "The cultural mandate". The mandate is to uncover and develop the wonders of God's creation for his glory.
  5. Serpents in the ancient near east are seen as significant. They are connected with both wisdom and death, as well as fertility, health, chaos and immortality. Because of this serpents were often worshipped.
  6. Genesis 3.15 is God's opening covenant promise of sending a savior into the world.
  7. Cain and Abel both sacrifice, but Abel gives his best, Cain his leftovers.
  8. Genesis 4.26: Seth's family line focuses on God and so puts things back in right perspective.

Is this a claim by God for mans victory over satan through him? It says "bruise his head" and other translations say "crush his head".
Is this speaking of satan having headship or leadership and that God will use us to overcome satans leadership or headship?

If this is what is being said it is pretty awesome! and encouraging.

Genesis 3:14-15

14The LORD God said to the serpent,

"Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and(L) dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[e] and(M) her offspring;
(N) he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel."

God's Plan

Ephesians 1:10-12

"As a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory."

It starts with God, it ends with God, and we join in the mission of restoration.
